Wave Buoys
The Channel Coast Observatory (CCO), run by the National Oceanographic Centre at Southampton, operates a series of wave buoys along the south coast. Two are adjacent to Chesil Beach (Chesil and West Bay units). Click the logo to go to the real-time data page on the CCO site. The two buoys of interest are in the list at the bottom of the page or click on the buoys on the map. They are located off the beach opposite the Wyke Bridging Camp and just to the south of West Bay harbour.You may need to click 'Select Today' to get the latest data. There is also a buoy in Weymouth Bay which is located off Bowleaze Cove.

Tidal Station
The Proudman Oceanographic Laboratories (POL) operate a number of accurate tide stations around the UK coast. The nearest to Chesil Beach is located on the Pleasure Pier in Weymouth. Click the logo to the left to go to the POL site and see live data from this gauge.

The UK Hydrographic Office offer tidal predictions using EasyTide. There are four reference locations around Chesil Beach. Click one of the links below to get predictions for the next seven days.

If you live in a low-lying area close to Chesil Beach you may want to check the Environment Agency flood warning web site at times of bad weather.

Wildlife recording
The Dorset Environmental Records Centre (DERC) records wildlife for the whole of Dorset, including Chesil Beach and the Fleet. To visit their site click the logo.
