Official launch event

2pm. Chesil Beach Centre

Saturday 11th August

Official launch event for National Marine Week on Portland and Chesil Beach. A specially commissioned sculpture ‘From Ferrybridge to Deadman’s Bay’ by Lal Hitchcock was unveiled and is now on display in the Centre. This sculpture has been created from the flotsam and jetsam found on Chesil Beach.

 

Paddling safari

1pm. Meet at the Chesil Beach Centre

Sunday 12th August

Explore the fantastic underwater life on the fringes of the Fleet Lagoon using nets and underwater viewing tubes. Led by Hazel Griffiths from the Chesil Beach Centre.

 

Low tide ramble

1pm. Meet at the Chesil Beach Centre

Wednesday 15th August

Explore the plant and animal life of The Fleet and Ham Beach on Portland Harbour with Hazel Griffiths of the Chesil Beach Centre.

 

Fish, crabs and oysters

2:30pm. Meet at the Chesil Beach Centre

Wednesday 15th August

Discover more about the fishing in the waters of Lyme Bay and The Fleet, and shellfish farming in The Fleet and Portland Harbour. Led by Don Moxom, the Fleet Warden.

 

Life on a tombolo

11am. Meet at Chesil Beach Centre

Thursday 16th August

Discover the harsh environment of the Chesil shingle ridge and the plants that survive these tough conditions. Led by Don Moxom, the Fleet warden.

 

Hi-Tech, Wild-Trek

11am-5pm

Friday to Sunday 17-19th August. Chesil Beach Centre

Capture your own mini sea beasts and make them into monsters using the video technology, computers, and microscopes in the mobile laboratory parked alongside the Chesil Beach Centre.
