Seafest 2007 activities

This page contains details of events for the Seafest 2007 weekend 18-19th August. All events were held at the Chesil Beach Centre.

 

At the Chesil Beach Centre there was be a straw bale house, a traditional lerret fishing boat, marine puppets, lots of children’s activities based on a marine wildlife and conservation theme, and stalls run by Dorset organisations which have an interest in the seas and coasts of Dorset.

Salty sculptures

 

Drop in any time to the Chesil Beach Centre on Saturday 18th August to make your own quirky sculptural creation from flotsam and jetsam from Chesil Beach, with local artist Lal Hitchcock.

Hi-Tech Wild-Trek

 

Capture your own sea mini-beasts and make them into monsters using the video technology, computers and microscopes in the mobile laboratory .

The cool seas roadshow

 

The Marine Conservation Society cool seas roadshow will be visiting for Seafest 2007. Get up close and personal with life-size, lifelike models of whales, dolphins, sharks, giant turtles, seals, and porpoises—all animals resident in the seas around us.

 

Roving underwater camera

 

The Dorset Wildlife Trust underwater camera is coming to The Fleet. Final details yet to be decided so contact the Chesil Beach Centre nearer the day for full details.

 

Boat trips

 

The boat trips around the Fleet, around Portland Harbour and around the coast of Portland will continue throughout the Seafest Weekend. See the Continuing Events page for details

 

Minibus trips

 

The minibus trips around Portland will have an additional evening trip at 7:30pm for the two days of Seafest 2007. Look at the Continuing Events page for details.

Eco-exhibition shelter

 

There will be a straw bale shelter outside the Visitors Centre. Inside will be displays and 3D exhibits, including a section of the straw bale house.
